Anthony Rovente comes to Lopez from Upstate New York, where he taught Social Studies for the Maine-Endwell School District. Rovente has a Masters in Social Studies Education from The State University of New York at Binghamton. He teaches both Middle and High School Social Studies at Lopez. Rovente’s unique teaching style helps students connect with history while building 21st Century Skills through the use of mobile technology. His work on ProjectWa, a mobile app and blog made by his students and 468 Communications, won the 2017 Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation Officer’s  Award for Education. Anthony’s collaboration with The American School of Paris on the Monuments Project is another example of how he makes history relevant for young people. In addition to Social Studies, Rovente teaches a Woodshop course as well as expedition Sailing and Biking intensives. When outside the classroom, Rovente owns and operates a small inn on the island with his wife and five children.
